Identities, Body, and Politics in the Slam Poetry Scene in Santiago, Chile

Abstract

This article examines the emergence of Slam poetry in the world of literature in Chile, highlighting the subjective meanings and interpretative schemes of their main actors. Through qualitative research, the narratives of slammers are analyzed, emphasizing the creation of a vital space for marginalized and underrepresented voices in the country’s poetic scene. The narrative approach employed allows us to show how slam poetry collectives challenge established literary rules and provide a space where marginalized voices can be heard and valued. This study contributes to a greater understanding of cultural dynamics in Chile and underscores the importance of poetry collectives as agents of social and cultural change.
