As part of a collective effort to analyze the way in which Jewish studies are organized in Latin America, this article provides an insight into what has happened in Mexico with regard to its emergence, the processes of institutionalization they are ongoing, and the dialogue they engage –or not– with other academic agendas. We start from the proposal to explicitly point out the connection between intellectual production and the social place in which it is generated. Therefore, more than focusing in the analysis of texts, we try to locate Jewish studies in Mexico and analyze the communities that produce them, as well as the networks and rituals of interaction through which academic life is institutionalized.
